There are a number of 3D Printing services that operate on the principle of connecting people in need of prototypes with local 3D Printing Services. MakeXYZ, Treatstock, 3Dhubs. And this is not a bad thing. It allows companies and individuals to support local services and allows access to a much larger network of resources.
But what if all you want is a prototype? What if you just need a part printed in a set time period and with the exact same settings as the previous one so you can iterate and improve with a minimum of variables. Something where you know what you are going to get every time. The network model makes this challenging. Because even if your select "black" it might change from one order to the next based on the processes of the individual supplier. You are after all not working with 1 individual service but potentially dozens. Now you can use the same local service each time. But even here you can run into issues with slow quoting, and indeterminate schedules if they become overloaded. All of this variance is why we created Twist. We wanted to make sure that designers and engineers can plan around us. When they make an order they know what it will be made of and when it will arrive. We print every part in Black PETG and use 2-3 day shipping. That you can set a watch by. We hope that you continue to support your local businesses. But consistency is so important when engineering a new product and 3D Printing prototypes. We also hope that Twist can help eliminate that choice fatigue.
